We have found that our students often rush the design process and want to focus primarily on the creation of their product. This lack of forethought and planning often leads to issues though the development stage of their project. We have also found that they take a cursory approach to the testing and iterative approach to design. Whilst it is a requirement of our assessment tasks in senior that students demonstrate evidence of testing and refinement of their designs they are often just ticking the box. We have discussed placing a larger focus on this through the junior school to allow students to see the importance of this approach to design.
