Steve Black▸ Task 6 – Implementing Your Game
Students were preparing a Platform Game on GameMaker. We completed a tutorial game using a character without moving arms/legs that glided across the screen. Students were shown the ‘jump to position’ method for movement, added to the ‘directional’ movement they had previously used in maze games. However, as their platform game required an animated running character sprite, students needed to learn an additional method of ensuring gravity and using horizontal speed for movement (so they could change the sprite depending on direction and include sub-images. Students were encouraged to attempt their own movement space for experimentation after they completed their tutorial, before they designed their platform game.
