Task 6 – Implementing your game
Having taught a game design unit for several years to year 7 and 8 students using Game Maker, the biggest issue I face is getting the students designing and planning in an effective manner.
I normally scaffold student learning by demonstrating the basics, I also have a collection of 'how-to' movies that allow students to move on at their own pace. User interface design is also covered in these movies.
An expectation is also that students complete a Game Design Document. Sadly though, students are just more keen to start creating the game and are happy for the game to evolve as they go. Frustratingly, this opens a can of worms for some students, as their game gets larger, the problems grow!!
This MOOC has given me more ideas on how I also can implement further scaffolding to overcome these issues. Thank you.
